What attracted you to the BLPT MBA Program at DeGroote?

When I decided to pursue an MBA, I was seeking a program that would allow me to continue working full-time. With an MBA program, I was looking for education with purpose that would support leadership development and provide networking opportunities. Personally, these expectations were met by the DeGroote BLPT MBA Program where I have the benefit of attending in-person residencies once a month during the semester.

What has been the highlight of your DeGroote experience?

Most certainly the highlight has been the opportunity to meet and learn from exceptional leaders in different industries, professions, and educational backgrounds. Learning in an environment that facilitates and celebrates experiences and differences in opinion supports a well-rounded understanding and application of business fundamentals and leadership skills.

What surprised you about your experience at DeGroote?

I was most surprised by the emphasis on team dynamics, collaboration and communication development using groups within our cohort. In each semester, students are assigned to a ‘new’ group, where they can work with different peers from within their cohort. This has allowed me to have the opportunity to take on different roles – leader, challenger, thinker, supporter, coordinator – and lean into my own areas for development more greatly.

How has this program impacted your career?

After completing my first year, I have found that the program has allowed me to quickly apply relevant concepts to my professional work – whether it be with innovative thinking, developing strategic work streams or team building – I have successfully been expanding my leadership skills.

What advice do you have for someone looking to pursue their MBA while continuing to work full-time?

The DeGroote BLPT MBA is an investment in yourself – so it is important to remember that what you get out of this program is certainly an outcome of what you put into it. Therefore, if you would like to pursue an MBA part-time while working full-time, determine if you are ready to learn at a fast pace and know that it will take a lot of time and effort, but with the support of family, friends, colleagues and your BLPT cohort, you will achieve your goals and you will succeed.
