I did land a new job during the program at a company with core values that I identify with the most. Why did you decide to pursue your MBA?
I started my career in a predominantly technical role and throughout my career have felt lacking the cutting edge that is required for growth. We are now in a market where skills are the most important currency and thus, I felt that pursuing an MBA would enhance my skillset that would not only help me navigate today’s changing market but also thrive and position me towards career growth.
How has this program impacted your career?
I did land a new job during the program at a company with core values that I identify with the most. It is still early days to assess the overall impact to my career, but I can say that the program has enhanced my soft skills such as effective communication and leadership as well as provided experience with working with diverse teams which is very important in today’s global workplace.
What was your favourite aspect about your experience at DeGroote?
Being part of a diverse cohort who had similar goals and a vast range of experience in a variety of industries was my favourite aspect at DeGroote. I not only learnt a lot from the rich mixture of talent but also made friends for life.
What surprised you about your experience at DeGroote?
The adaptability of the program to quickly move to an online only mode during the pandemic was commendable and a pleasant surprise. The situation was one of those extraordinary circumstances that you cannot plan for and the effort taken by everyone associated with the program – like the faculty and the staff to provide a seamless experience showed that the program practices what it preaches.
What would you tell anyone considering taking this program?
Time Management is an important skill that I learnt from the program so I would advise anyone considering taking this program to budget enough time for the program’s activities. There will be some sacrifices to be made but there is also a lot to gain and a lot to learn which will help bridge the gap which made you consider the pursuing an MBA and ultimately will give you a sense of achievement.
